As with many of you, the Royal African Discoveries team is eagerly awaiting and dreaming about the day we can welcome back clients to our shores. We were again reminded that making dreams a reality is essentially what we do.
Someone may dream of one day seeing an African elephant up close in nature or to stand on top of Table Mountain taking in the magnificent views. We have the privilege in conjunction with our partners from around the world to make those dreams a reality for thousands of dreamers traveling to Southern Africa.
So, during this period of lockdown we challenged our chief dream designers (sometimes also called tour consultants) to dream a little and come up with their ideal Southern African itinerary for a couple of fictitious enquiries. This is what our team came up with…
Honeymoon itinerary for Mrs and Mrs Khvaab (Khvaab means dream in Hindi)
The Brief
A Honeymoon couple has 8 – 10 nights at their disposal. Would like a 4-star based itinerary and keen on staying in smaller, boutique properties. Open to self-drive and would ideally like to hire a cabriolet. They want to go on a safari but not the main reason they are coming to SA. Would like to experience some unique activities while they are here.
An luxury itinerary for The F̄ạn Family (F̄ạn means dream in Thai)
The Brief
Family. Mr & Mrs and their two kids aged 15 and 9. They have 9 nights at their disposal. They would like a 5-star luxury itinerary and budget is a not a big consideration. They want private touring and want to show the kids the best of what Southern Africa has to offer. Keen to include Victoria Falls and family friendly, luxury safari experience. Really want to enjoy some activities that they can do together as a family with some soft adventure.
An Incentive itinerary for The Sen Company (Sen means dream in Czech)
The Brief
Company rewarding their top 60 achievers with a trip. They need to include a meeting with their SA office in Johannesburg and they only have 4 nights for the entire trip so need to work on options in and around Joburg only. They want the group to experience some unique, “off the beaten track” experiences and the company CEO is a huge fan of Nelson Mandela and his legacy and would like to incorporate this into the trip. The theme of the trip will be around Nelson Mandela. Would like good 5-star accommodation all on twin sharing basis.
An itinerary for the Multi-generational Sognare Family (Sognare means dream in Italian)
The Brief
Multi-generational travel. Grandfather is celebrating his 70th birthday and taking the whole family on a trip. It will be Grandfather and Grandmother. They then have their 3 kids traveling with their families. Family 1 is mom & dad and one 16 year old daughter. Family 2 is mom & dad and 2 kids under 12. Family 3 is just a couple, no kids. Would love to celebrate the birthday at a lodge and very keen on safari so can spend 3 nights at a good lodge, would be open to private lodge option as well. Besides the 3 nights on safari they have an additional 4 nights at their disposal and open to suggestion of what they can do.
An adventure itinerary for a group of friends - The Drøm tribe (Drøm means dream in Danish)
The Brief

Open to apartment style accommodation options i.e. 2-bedroom apartments etc. They can spend up to 10 nights in SA and want to include as many, adrenaline filled adventure activities as possible. Keen to spend more time in Cape Town and also heard good things about the Winelands. Have to visit Victoria Falls.
